Alliance Against Monopoly, a Pan-African anti-dominance organization, has stated that regulators must take all actions feasible to dismantle the ugly monster of monopolies and duopolies that are stifling innovation in the ICT and telecom industry.
Dr. Omife I. Omife, the advisory director for the Alliance Against Monopoly Africa, commented on the Uganda National IT Survey 2022 report by the National Information Technology Authority Uganda (NITA-U), saying that regulators must slay the monopolistic hydra whose tentacles continue to stifle innovation and competition, particularly in the telecom sector.
The advent of the fourth industrial revolution, which heavily relies on the internet, has fundamentally changed how people live and conduct business, but Uganda runs the risk of losing out on the chance as a result of the emergence of monopolists who prioritize their own financial interests over the interests of businesses, schools, and households.
