In time for the African Games in Accra later this year, Ghana will have a new national airline operated by former England star Emile Heskey.
The Zotus Group, an operational and financial partner of Ashanti Airlines, has received a contract from the Ghanaian government to run Ghana Airlines out of the nation’s capital.
The airline also holds an air carrier license, and it is currently working to complete the requirements for an air operator certificate.
In time for the African Games, which are set to take place between August 4 and August 19, it intends to launch operations in the third quarter of this year.
Heskey, who played for Leicester City, Liverpool, and Aston Villa in the Premier League throughout his career and appeared in 62 England international matches and two FIFA World Cups, co-founded the Zotus Group.
Heskey, who co-founded the business with businessman Davison Simango of Manchester, will serve as chairman of the new initiative’s board of directors.
Ghana Airlines’ initiative to establish a new pan-African aviation hub has the support of President Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana and Lord Popat and Baroness Kate Hoey, the United Kingdom Prime Minister’s Trade Envoys.
